Panic Cure pt 3

Panic Attacks Cures:Positive Self-Talk

Panic attacks occur when the primitive, non-rational part of our mind gets stimulated to a real or perceived threat to yourself or others. One of the effective panic attacks cures is using our self-talk. We can address the mental component of panic attacks with self talk, which engages the logical, rational part of our brain. You can counteract the primitive “fight or flight” response this way, and overcome panic attacks.

Use Positive Self Talk -such as

“No one has ever died from a panic attack.”

“This will pass. I will let my body do its thing.”

“I can be anxious and still deal with this situation.”

“This does not feel great, but I can deal with it”.

“I am frightened of being frightened, therefore if I stop worrying about being frightened, then I have nothing to be scared of.”

Self Talk As A Panic Attacks Cure

We all have a voice in our head – yes, that one right there that said “what voice?” Everything we “say” to ourselves becomes an evaluation to our unconscious mind. When we are having a panic attack, we are reacting to our body quickly changing state to the “fight or flight” response. This sudden change is what causes the symptoms of panic attacks.

Generally, what you are saying to yourself during a panic attack is unresourceful. That is, what you are saying is not leading you out of panic, perhaps it is leading further into deeper panic and anxiety. If not controlled, this can lead to anticipatory anxiety, phobias, and depression.

Why Positive Self Talk Helps Cure Panic Attacks

Affirmations, or positive self talk, take you out of your panic attack “state,” and bring you to a rational, positive way of thinking and being, causing you to become aware, and put your focus away from the panic attack and onto overcoming panic.

Positive Self Talk engages the rational mind, which up to this point has been taken by surprise by the sudden shift that happened because of some unconscious stimulation that bypassed logic and went directly to the primitive brain.

When you engage the rational brain during a panic attack, you treat the panic attack from a conscious, aware state. You can quickly regain your breath, and recover from the panic attack.

Self talk is a useful panic attack cure in your arsenal against panic.

A useful exercise is to sit down and write out a list of phrases for yourself to practice and use prior to the next time you may have a panic attack. You may be surprised and delighted to find that you have created some panic attack cures for yourself!

Summary

During a panic attack you have lost (conscious) control over your body. Positive self talk engages your rational, logical mind, and you begin to exert control, first in your mind, and then to your body. Your body follows your predominant thinking. It may sound silly and trite, however, wouldn’t you rather have a trite panic attack cure (with positive self talk) than have the loss of control that comes with a panic attack?
